Soils and Contaminated Land
The treatment of hazardous wastes has become increasingly difficult and far more expensive as hazardous waste must be pre-treated prior to landfill and the number of landfills able to accept hazardous waste has fallen dramatically.
Biffa have set up an alliance with contaminated land specialists, Biogenie Site Remediation Ltd to provide companies with a means of removing contaminated soils from site, whilst at the same time achieving diversion from landfill.
Treat contaminated soils, away from site
The service treats contaminated soils away from the clients' site at treatment centres where naturally occurring microorganisms are encouraged/nurtured to break down and degrade organic contaminants into non-toxic compounds.
With soils treated and recycled away from site, firms are free to undertake construction projects as they have traditionally.
Treatable Wastes
The Biffa Biogenie treatment service can treat both hazardous and non hazardous waste contaminated with a wide range of petroleum hydrocarbons (petrol, heating fuel, diesel, used oils, crude oil etc), where contaminants such as PAH's (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons), PCP (Pentachlorophenol), creosote, phenols and chlorinated solvents are also present. (Subject to Permit).
