Landfill Tax Revenues top £800m
The Office of National Statistics has just published its latest set of Environmental Accounts for Autumn 2007. Although "green" taxes have fallen to their lowest level in 13 years (2.7%), landfill tax is at a record level of £804m.

Government helps LAs get tough on litter
Local authorities are issuing more fixed penalty notices for littering and more people are paying up. The total number of fixed penalty notices issued has risen by 32% from 33,033 in 2005/6 to 43,624 in 2006/07.
