Second Innovation award for pioneering soil clinic

7th December 2006

Biffa's Soil Treatment Clinic has won the The New Civil Engineer Innovation Award for 'Best New Service' at the prestigious Civils 2006. It's the second award for innovation that the service has won this year after winning the Brownfield Briefing Remediation Innovation Awards in August.

Supported by New Civil Engineer and the Institution of Civil Engineers, The Civils 2006 Awards recognise new thinking in civil engineering and showcase companies that have made the jobs of engineers quicker, easier and more competitive in the light of stringent legislation.

The Soil Clinic at Risley near Warrington is a partnership between Biffa and Biogenie. It can treat around 50,000 tonnes of soils every year and provides developers with the means to transport waste from site and release an area for immediate development. This saves time and money and serves to support developer's corporate/social responsibility objectives.

On receiving the award, Biffa general manager, John Conway said, 'This award means a lot. Recognition from the Civil Engineering sector for the service we and Biogenie are offering is no small thing and illustrates the growing importance of effective and sustainable hazardous waste solutions for British industry.'
