Timeline.

Biffa has begun construction work on the new facility at Brookhurst Wood.

 

Summer 2009 Biffa applies for planning permission to build a new Mechanical Biological Treatment facility at Brookhurst Wood.
Spring 2010 West Sussex County Council grants planning permission for the facility.
Summer 2010 Environment Agency grants a permit to operate the facility.
Summer 2010 Biffa begins preliminary enabling works on site to prepare for construction of the new facility.
Spring 2011 Construction work on the facility buildings begins. Anaerobic Digester (AD) tanks arrive and installation begins.
Summer 2011 Installation of waste processing equipment begins.
Autumn 2011 Work on the visitors centre continues
Winter 2011 More of the processing equipment will be installed within the main building
Summer 2012 Visitor Centre and Office building works construction.

Winter 2012

Commissioning process begins to rigorously test the performance of the facility before it begins full operations.

Deliveries of waste to the facility as required for the commissioning performance tests.

Spring 2013 Work on on-site landscaping improvements begins.
