Through our network of Transfer Stations Biffa have national coverage for the disposal of containerised or packaged wastes, ranging from small volume laboratory waste through to 1000 ltr Intermediate Bulk Containers.
Our Transfer Stations accept a wide range of EWC (European Waste Catalogue) codes for hazardous and non hazardous materials with the following hazards:-
- Flammable gases
- Non-flammable, non-toxic gases
- Toxic gases
- Flammable liquids
- Flammable solids
- Spontaneously combustible
- Dangerous when wet substances
- Oxidizers
- Organic peroxides
- Toxic substances
- Corrosives
- Miscellaneous
We don’t accept explosive, radioactive, or infectious hazards but we can arrange disposal.
Health, safety and Legal Compliance is key to everything we do, our trained chemists inspect every load that arrives and we only accept the wastes our transfer stations are designed and permitted to store.
Once accepted wastes are separated and then stored in specially designed bays to ensure segregation. Wastes may then be bulked and are held for the minimum possible time to guard against aging plus freeing up capacity for new deliveries before being moved onwards for processing.
Materials are processed to recover as much waste as possible including the packaging, i.e. metal drums.
We maintain a full paperwork and audit trail to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation.
Biffa has an Environmental Management System which is externally accredited to ISO 14001 as well as 9000 & 18000 accreditation.
