Biffa Plastic recycling - what plastics do we sell?

The Types of Plastics We Sell

Biffa strives to recycle significant amounts of plastic so that the materials can be reused, replacing the need for producing more plastic that will later go to landfill. Our innovative plastics recycling facilities and processes have a positive environmental impact, and we endeavour to improve upon the amount of plastic we process each year.

Ensuring that we work alongside companies and local authorities in processing more mixed polymer plastic across the UK means that we will continue to have a positive impact on the environment. We divert unnecessary waste from landfill, and provide companies with plastic recycling services.

We sell the following recycled plastic materials at competitive rates:

Compound Plastics

We have the capability of recycling a wide variety of post-industrial scrap into recycled pellets. Our polymer compounds are used predominantly in sheet extrusion, blow moulding, injection moulding and pipe extrusion applications.

Our compounded polymer range includes polypropylene, high density polyethylene and low density polyethylene, and is available in a wide variety of different grades and colours tailored to our customer’s requirements.

Food-Grade recycled high density polyethylene (rHDPE)

Biffa Polymers was the first in the world to commercially produce food-grade rHDPE plastic pellet from recycled plastic milk bottles.

Having undergone the most stringent testing, the product is manufactured from hot washing, density-separated and super-cleaned raw material, and compounded into a pellet of agreed specification.

This pellet is used as recycled content in manufacturing new plastic milk bottles, plastic food trays for supermarkets, cosmetics containers as well as for use in non-food items such as paint trays and plant pots. Using recycled content reduces the need for virgin plastic, therefore saving costs in the manufacture of plastic products.

Regrind Plastics

Biffa Polymers offers a range of rGrade plastic regrinds suitable for the manufacture of recycled plastics compounds or directly into end products. Our regrinds are thoroughly quality checked through our laboratory for physical properties and can be supplied with a certificate of analysis on request.

We can offer our regrinds in blended, washed and de-dusted formats capable for direct injection moulding. Alternatively, our 20 tonne regrind blends enable us to provide a homogenous product which save compound

manufacturers time and money. The following are typical examples of rGrade plastic raw materials that Biffa Polymers have available on a regular basis.

  • High Density Polyethylene- HDPE Jazz Extrusion Grade
  • High Density Polyethylene- HDPE Jazz Injection Grade
  • Polypropylene PP Jazz Inj Regrind

Each of the material groups is generally available in a range of viscosities (i.e. plastic injection moulding grade or plastic extrusion grade) and in a range of colours.
