Here at Biffa we are committed to reducing the environmental impact of the business and are proud of the work that we have done to reduce our carbon footprint to date.

This year marks a decade of continued carbon emission reductions, which we see as a fantastic achievement for the business.

We adhere to the Carbon Saver Standard™ and this certification demonstrates to our customers and suppliers that we are doing everything we can to protect the environment, not just in terms of the type of business we are, but also in the way we do things.

Carbon Saver Standard™

The Carbon Saver Standard™ scheme has three levels of accreditation; Bronze, silver and gold. Biffa continues to be successful in achieving the highest standard – Gold. The Environment Agency acknowledges the Carbon Saver Standard™ as an equivalent scheme to the Carbon Trust Standard which is trusted by brands all over the UK.

Their main mission is to help businesses save energy and become more sustainable.

How did Biffa get gold?

In addition to submitting an evidence pack, site visits are also undertaken by independent assessors, to verify the claims made within the submission process.

Carbon management efforts are reviewed against a list of 10 criteria ranging from policy to training and governance. The gold carbon standard certification is subject to a 100% risk based audit, while silver and bronze accreditations are based on a lower criteria and a decreased risk based audit.

We endeavour to continue reducing our carbon footprint and reaching a standard of a gold accreditation over many more decades.

Chloe Barnicoat Group Environmental Projects Manager at Biffa said:

“The repeated success of our Carbon Saver Gold achievements are a result of team work – from the efforts our operational staff and engineers put in to reducing consumption at our sites through to the central functions team who maintain our energy management system and ensure accuracy of reporting.”

“It is a real pleasure seeing the efforts that everyone in the business makes come to fruition.”
