5 Things You Didn’t Know About the Biffa North Team

From publishing novels to rescuing abandoned animals, our team don’t just excel at managing waste. We spent time getting to know more about the people who run your waste management service across Scotland, the North and the Midlands.

Here are just a few of the people you’ll find at our local depots – and their stories.

1. Meet Biffa Bromborough’s resident novelist

Day job: Depot manager at Biffa Bromborough. Des spends his time planning in work, liaising with staff and checking reports.

Day off: Away from the depot, Des is a published novelist. His first book is a romantic thriller set in the Middle East – and with another novel already in progress, we look forward to picking up a copy when it’s released.

2. It’s all about animal rescue at Biffa Inverness

Day job: Gail is depot manager at Biffa Inverness, making sure that vehicles are maintained and operations are running smoothly.

Day off: There’s no rest away from the depot. In her spare time, Gail is a devoted cat carer, having taken in and rehomed hundreds of lost and stray felines over the last decade.

3. At the helm of the Biffa Ramblers in the Northern region

Day job: Operational Support Manager at Biffa covering majority of the Northern area. It’s Jane’s role to oversee projects.

Day off: Jane’s a keen walker and part of the Biffa Ramblers – a group of local depot colleagues who meet up to take on hikes around the countryside of the North.

4. Literary relaxation at Biffa Nottingham

Day job: Depot manager at Biffa Nottingham. Rui’s makes sure our team delivers and customers are happy.

Day off: Our team up north are a literary lot! Away from the depot, Rui loves nothing more than to spend his time reading 19th century Portuguese and Russian literature.

5. Outdoor adventures at Biffa Middlesbrough

Day job: Depot manager at Biffa Middlesbrough. Lee has spent more than two decades at Biffa, including fifteen years at our Middlesbrough depot – making him a familiar face to many.

Day off: As if the demands of a fast-paced depot weren’t enough, Lee is a fitness fanatic, tackling everything from cycling to mountain biking.
