The workshop focuses on the pros and cons of setting up a bottle deposit return scheme and the merits of “tax versus reward.”
Act 1. The Dilemma
At the start of the first session, students are split into two groups. One is addressed by an actor playing the role of a Two Councillor; the other by a representative of a residents’ action group.
Act 2. The Debate
The second session takes the form of a public consultation, in which students from each group will debate both sides of the argument to vote whether or not the scheme should go ahead.
"Rescue Your Refuse" is delivered by specially trained actors with extensive experience in providing drama-based education programmes for primary and secondary schools.
Students will play an active part throughout, and special roles can be created for key members of staff on request.
"Rescue Your Refuse" is specifically designed for Key Stage 3 students, ages 11-14, and mapped to the National Curriculum for Citizenship and Geography.
