Biffa has been shortlisted for two titles at the 2024 Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management.

The UK leader in sustainable waste management is a finalist for Collection Crew of the Year and for Best Local Authority Recycling Initiative.

Billed as the "most prestigious event in the environmental calendar", the awards aim to recognise innovation, dedication and success in the recycling and waste industry, local authorities and the wider sector.

The winners will be announced on May 16 at The Grosvenor Hotel, Park Lane, London. The 21st anniversary of the show is set to be bigger and better than ever, with two new categories announced, totalling 20 awards.

At the 2022 awards, Biffa was named the best recycling business in Britain.

This year, the Best Local Authority Recycling Initiative entry is a joint food waste minimisation and redistribution programme project between Biffa, West Sussex County Council and UKHarvest.

Meanwhile, Biffa has teams from Cornwall and Lincoln in the Collection Crew of the Year Award.

For the Cornwall crew, working in their local community is so much more than providing a reliable waste collection service - they’re always looking to see how else they can make a difference, from helping elderly residents to raising money for charity.

The Lincoln crew has been shortlisted after helping a women who needed urgent assistance. They made her safe and kept her warm until the ambulance arrived.

Steve Cole, Managing Director, Municipal Division, Biffa, said: "For two of our amazing municipal teams to be finalists at such a high-profile industry event is a fantastic achievement and a real testament to their commitment to caring for the people and communities where they work."
