Information For Local Authorities

Biffa’s household waste division delivers a range of cost-efficient, quality-led waste management services for 31 local authorities across the UK.

Helping local authorities recycle

Biffa-serviced collection authorities were placed 1st, 2nd, 4th and 10th in DEFRA’s 2014-15 recycling league table. We were the only contractor with more than one client authority in the top ten.

The second most improved Council in 2014-15 was Ashford Borough Council, up 13.4% from 41.9% to 55.3%. The previous year (2013-14), we helped the Council to quadruple its recycling rate, enabling the local authority to lose its title of England’s worst recycling council.

Green Waste Club

Biffa created and operates the Green Waste Club which has so far recycled over 155,000 tonnes of garden waste (as of 2017) for almost 50,000 customers in several local authority areas.

Client Audit Success

87% of our clients participated in our 2017 client satisfaction audit. Clients were surveyed on a range of Biffa’s performance and service attributes and asked to comment on what we do well and what we can improve.

The municipal division scored highly for operational excellence, innovation, and health and safety. Our client audit found the following results:

95% of respondents felt that Biffa dealt appropriately with enquires, requests or complaints from the public
96% of clients felt that Biffa delivered value-for-money
96% said Biffa’s health and safety culture was very good or excellent
100% rated Biffa’s recycling collection service as outstanding, very good or acceptable
