Health, Safety and Wellbeing

Keeping our people safe and well

Keeping our people safe and well is our absolute priority. This extends to the safety of our contractors, customers and members of the public. The Board of Directors has overall responsibility for health and safety including setting policy and reviewing performance.

Last year we had our best health and safety performance, significantly reducing the number of lost-time injuries (LTI) across the organisation by 42% (39 in 2019/20 compared with 67 in 2018/19). This achievement was the result of great efforts by all our employees, supported by our ‘Watch your Step’ campaign, which resulted in a 50% reduction in the number of slips, trips and falls from the previous year.

Despite our recent positive performance, there is still much to do. Our long-term commitment is to create a zero harm environment, with no injuries or work-related ill-health across our team. We are aiming for a further 50% reduction in our LTI rate by 2030.
