Our number one priority it to keep our people safe and well. This also includes the safety of our customers, contractors and to the members of the public. The overall responsibility for health and safety, including setting policy and reviewing performance, belongs to our Board of Directors.
Last year we had our best health and safety performance, significantly reducing the number of lost-time injuries (LTI) across the organisation by 42% (39 in 2019/20, compared with 67 in 2018/19). This achievement was the result of great efforts by all of our employees. It was also supported by our ‘Watch your Step’ campaign, which resulted in a 50% reduction in the number of slips, trips, and falls from the previous year.
Even though we have seen positive performance recently, there is still much to do. Our long-term commitment is to create a zero harm environment, with no injuries or work-related ill-health across our team. Our aim is to have a further reduction of 50% in our LTI rate by 2030.
