Simpler Recycling has standardised waste collection and has introduced separate waste streams for recyclable materials in England. It’s a legal requirement now and complying helps ensure everything runs smoothly. Ignoring it could lead to warnings or further action, so it's best to stay informed and up-to-date.

Simpler Recycling legislation came into effect on March 31st 2025. So, from this date onwards now, any business with more than 10 employees must separate recycling from residual waste for collection. No exceptions!

3 and 4 bin Simpler Recycling solutions

Did you know that in most cases you’ll need fewer bins than you have now, while also saving money by avoiding upcoming increases in Landfill Tax?

Simpler Recycling with Biffa means you’ll likely only need 3 bins, or 4 if you generate glass waste. Using our extensive infrastructure, we can process all your waste using the following bins

Food
If your business produces any amount of food waste even small items like tea bags and coffee grinds   then you will need to separate it from general waste. 

Dry mixed recycling
Dry mixed recycling such as paper, card, plastic and aluminium can all be collected in the same bin however large amounts of paper or card may need to be collected separately.

Glass
Glass waste needs to be stored and collected on its own.

General waste
General waste (also called residual waste) is anything left that can’t be recycled.
