Charity Binspiration

Here at Biffa we are well known for our iconic red lorry’s and bins.

We are also known for our innovative staff and through the years they have channelled this creativity, to transform some of our best known bins into incredible machines – all in aid of raising money for charity.

Our teams love to make a difference by taking part in events and raising money for charities all across the UK. 2017 especially, has been a busy year for staff at Biffa and here are some of the highlights so far.

Biffa Bullet

In July 2017, members of the Biffa team from Humberside entered the Humber Bridge Soapbox derby as the ‘Biffa Bullet’. With kind donations and support, the team managed to raise £800 for Cancer Research.

Made from obsolete Biffa parts the ‘Biffa Bullet’ was upcycled and turned into this master piece of engineering, allowing the team to enjoy a day full of spectators and support from the local community.

Although we didn’t win, the team had a fantastic day all in aid of this great cause.

HMS Biffinity

HMS Biffinity made her maiden (and final) voyage along the river Avon in July, as part of a charity raft race from Wasperton to Stratford-upon-Avon, raising money for the Riding for the Disabled Association.

The race required the Biffa Warwick depot to build their own raft and race along a 7 mile stretch of the river Avon, including negotiating two weirs along the way.

Michelle Lightowler, Senior Traffic Dispatcher at our Warwick depot said: “We were first time rafters who thought it would be a great opportunity for some team building for a cause that we can all get behind and support”

As well as these imaginative contraptions, our teams continue to raise money for numerous charities through other events and initiatives.

As a business we recognise the many people who go above and beyond to help others and incredibly proud of the work that goes into these events.

If you have turned our Biffa memorabilia into anything imaginative – we would love to see it! Tweet us your pics @BIFFA and show us your creative flare.
