Conceived as a budget-neutral way of helping local authorities increase recycling performance and provide important community support, the Green Waste Club was launched by Biffa in 2005. It is now well-established in a number of local authority areas.
Whether they be occasional or committed gardeners, Club members are allocated their own dedicated green waste bin that is collected fortnightly by Biffa crews. The garden waste is delivered to partner processors for conversion into compost for domestic and agricultural use.
By the end of 2017, around 155,000 tonnes of garden waste had been diverted from disposal by almost 50,000 customers in the Portmouth, Herefordshire Arun, Melton, Tandridge and East Northamptonshire council areas.
The Club’s environmentally-friendly service is funded by keenly-priced annual subscriptions paid by residents, either as individuals or as a group of neighbours who can share a subscription. A subscription can cost as little as just over £1 a week, and Biffa offers a number of convenient payment options.
Members enjoy other benefits, such as access to the Green Waste Club website.
