The street cleansing requirements of many of Biffa’s local authority contracts sees its teams make cleanliness a reality for public roads, streets and pavements, as well as some of England’s most popular beaches.
With ‘smart’ mechanised sweepers, as well as traditional brooms and hand carts, Biffa’s cleansing staff service town centres, residential areas, car parks and public spaces, as well as public toilets, carriageways and gullies.
This often makes them highly visible to local residents, many of whom contact their local council and Biffa to express their appreciation for this important local service.
Other duties include clearing abandoned vehicles and other bulky items, as well as removing fly tipping and graffiti.
Biffa’s commitment to high service standards has helped the Isle of Anglesey County Council win accolades for having the cleanest streets in Wales.
In the face of slashed central government budgets, Biffa worked closely with Wirral Council to rezone areas and cleansing schedules, enabling the authority to cut costs by around £1 million with little decline in overall cleanliness standards.
Biffa’s beach cleansing has helped a number of beaches win Blue Flag awards, so supporting their important tourist economies.
